All About Roasting

Roasting is the process of “cooking” the beans at certain temperatures and certain lengths of time in order to ensure that the master roaster is able to bring out the tantalizing hints of flavor that the individual world selected beans have to offer.  The essence of roasting is to unlock and develop the characteristics of the beans to the peak of perfection.  Each bean from around the world has its own unique characteristics.   It’s the job of the master roaster to bring out these characteristics for your sipping pleasures.

The skill of the master roaster will determine the taste in your cup.  Under developing the roasting process causes a weak flavor in the coffee cup and over roasting, even just a few seconds, creates a cup with a burnt flavor.  Roasting in small batches allows the roaster to develop a perfect roast for a perfect taste every time.

HobKnobb Roasting Company roasts its beans at only 7 pounds at a time in order to ensure that you’re receiving the freshest possible roast, grind and taste for your coffee needs.  Each batch is inspected for consistency in color, temperature and taste.  Large national coffee companies use enormous sized roasters causing inconsistencies in these qualities creating a different type of taste upon the palette.  Our small batch roasts allow the beans to reach a consistent perfection in color, temperature and taste, allowing us to serve you the best tasting coffees in southern Indiana.
